More About Jay

Jay has worked in the insurance industry for 30 years, first as an agent, then as an agency owner of the Scott-Johnston Agency, providing seamless service to corporate clients on a nationwide basis as an Agent/Broker.

In January of 2000, Jay sold the agency to start Jay Johnston & Associates, Inc., a Risk Management Firm specializing in Insurance Consulting, Behavior Motivation, Leadership Development and Commitment-Based Safety Education.

Jay diligently served on the National Propane Gas Association Safety Committee and Education, Training and Safety Committee for 20 years and is currently a voting member of the NPGA Technology and Standards Committee. He is a founding board member of Minnesota Propane Education and Research Council.

In October of 2002, Jay was appointed to the NPGA Insurance Task Force to study insurance costs, availability and alternative markets. He is presently a regular safety columnist for LP Gas Magazine under the column title: Safety First.

Jay is the editor and publisher of "The Safety Leader", a Forum for Leadership Development and regularly writes columns on safety for state association publications.

In 2006 Jay published his first book called “The Practice of Safety”, which has been highly praised and recognized by peers, clients and colleagues as an excellent tool to promote employee safety in the Propane Industry.

Jay has been a featured speaker for private corporations, state and national association meetings and conventions - including seminars, breakout sessions and keynote presentations on Leadership and Safety. His most passionate subjects include:

Jay Johnston is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with his beautiful, talented, charming wife of 30 years, two sons, a couple of cars, a few guitars and a boat.
